Etnies is re-releasing the Sal 23's and I couldn't be more stoked. They did trim the fat, and they aren't as puffy as the originals, but they are still a classic. I had a pair of red w/ black soles when I was in high school, and all the thugs thought I was on some next shit with some unreleased Jordan's. It was awesome.

No if only they'd bring back the S.L.B.'s and the S.L.B. 97's.

OPPOSITION to skatepark plans is not "narrow minded" or "nimbyism" (News editorial, March 28). The clanging, clattering sounds of wheeled boards colliding with concrete do not belong to any park anywhere. Only grass-based activities like football, cricket etc are suitable for wide-open green spaces.
Stripping away sections to surrender them for the exclusive use of specialised sports and recreations ought to be stopped.

The argument that skateboarders must be given a place to skate or they will go on making a nuisance of themselves in streets and malls is complete nonsense. Skateboarding began in the streets and it will always return to them. Simulated street features, like the ones proposed for Saughton, are fine to practise on but the real thing will always be a tempting challenge. Take a look at their literature and you will see what I mean. As for the easy moves, who wants to waste time going to some park, even one in the same district?

Another skatepark in Edinburgh – they already have one at Ocean Terminal –won't be the end of their demands. If the Saughton one goes ahead they will want one in Craigmillar, Wester Hailes, etc, etc. Why spend millions of pounds of public money promoting anti-social behaviour and giving kids another stupid way of injuring themselves? It's utter madness.

I assume most people have seen the new cover and interview with Sheckler. The kickflip is amazing and his skating is real solid. I personally can't quite get down with the jockism of skateboarding. And if you read the interview think he could have done a better job of just saying "Who cares what people think of me." Instead it was more like, "I am going to show all my fans how great I am, you'll see." I hope this kid does not pull a Gator. It's a lot of pressure when dudes like Jamie Thomas and Eric Koston are making fun of you. The show sucks, hands down... no skateboarding and tons of bratty rich kid moments. What do you think?

I have very good news about the Roslyn skate park. We are all very fortunate to have had Tom Martyn and Pat Bodor step forward and donate their services toward the construction of the Roslyn skate park.

For those unfamiliar with Tom and Pat let me just say that they have each spent many years working with Grindline, one of the premier skate park designers in the world (www.grindline.com). Both Tom and Pat are prepared to take a leave of absence from work in order to see our project through and thier proposed timeline would have the park built by the end of summer 08.

However, for the park to be finished this quickly Pat and Tom must be allowed to start immediately. There is a meeting to be held Wed. April 30th at 7:00 p.m. in the Abington township building (1176 old york rd. Abington, PA 19001) A comity is going to vote whether or not to let Tom and Pat start building immediately.

If we have a strong showing of support we could be skating our very own concrete park by the end of the summer. If we do not have a strong showing this project could be put on the back burner and take years to complete.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have a everyone come out to this meeting. We had almost a hundred people come out for the benefit this past Saturday, I know we can bring 3 times that many to this meeting. Thanks in advance. Cheers! -Rory

I once took a trip to London to skate South Bank. Actually I've been there twice. As Americans we know the spot well. Did you know it was under an arts culture mega plex? Also skaters have been going there since the early 70's and the public loves having the skaters there? Sound familiar?

I was walking to Washington Square Park with Angry Tony, and we ran into "Rudy - The Skateboarding Dog". He mostly scooters, and doesn't actually get up fully on it, but it was fun to watch, none the less. Everyone at the park seemed to enjoy it.

Need some Help from the Slap family! I need you guys to find out who this dude is!!!
This mother fucker, has been coming up on the dock and taking case's of wheels and trucks. He drive's up, runs up, snakes a box right off the dock, then drives away. Now he's been seen around town selling the the product. He hit up the guys at FTC, trying to sell them a case of trucks, Ando was super rad and told the dude to come back the next day. Ando called me and we hung the next day waiting for him, but no show. Lucky mother fucker!
Now a friend of mine, took some photos of him selling my product at the San Mateo Park. He lied and said " I work at Deluxe and this is all seconds" " Its cool they are down"
Fuck this dude! he's fucked if I catch him.
He also been seen, selling gear at a bunch of parks. Sunnyvale, Menlo Park, SJ Park, Santa Cruz, Pacifica, SF, 3rd and Army, Crocker, pier, and 3 up 3 down. This dude is spun out on crack! he got scabs on his face ( about to have bigger scab face) so if you see him out, tell him we a looking for him. Or just take some product or every thing and tell him I said "it was cool"
Any help in finding this fucker let me know, got a box of gear for the reward ! Can anyone, dmv search!

Epicly Later'd has gotten a redesign, and I couldn't be more psyched. There is now an episode guide, which is handy, since I almost couldn't find the most recent cardiel episode when I check last.

Odell has a good thing going on over there, and I'll be sure to check it out more often, now that it is more html based. Now if we could only get a RSS feed and a nerd episode, with my interview, and we'd be golden!

Tim O'Connor's New shoe on Adidas is out, and they held a ROAST for Timmy. Nieratko got the mic and tore a new one for the whole industry and it rules so much. I know this is sorta old news, but it has to be seen. Nieratko makes some great points, like TWS and Army ads, Nike and their shitty video, and just calling BS on the industry in general.

Around 2001, Philadelphia began to really crack down on skateboarding in public areas, most notably, City Hall and JFK Plaza (Love Park). It hit us hard, as the central locality of these spots made them perfect in so many ways - this WAS the City to us. A lot of people got bummed and left but a few of us stuck around to stand up and fight.

It's only at the moment you're told you can't do something that you truly know what you're made of.

Over the past 7 years we have organized ourselves into a presence in this City that has received the following:

1. 2.5 acres of land to build a park on, centrally located between the Art Museum and Schuylkill River
2. Approval from all relevant agencies to build
3. A design award from the American Institute of Architects
4. $1M from the City of Philadelphia to make this happen (1/6 of our budget)

We're so close. We've been fighting for so long. It's your typical Rocky story. The underdogs need to win this one, to show this City what its future should be, instead of being told no.

Be a part of something bigger than you. Please contact me directly if you are interested in helping out. It can be one of a million different ways. We are planning an art auction / event with bands in April, maybe you can help plan / donate talent for that? Maybe you know someone at a sizeable corporation who wants to donate funds to the construction of the park to get their name out there?

Whatever it is, it doesn't matter how big or small, EVERY PIECE HELPS. Just talking about this project to one other person will have its impact, I guarantee it.

We need to start assembling our army.

This ramp is apparently in Mardid, Spain, and I found the flick here, via Mike Ferry, a fellow Giraffe. I think this is an awesome idea, and gives non-skateboarders a better frame of reference for what a mini-ramp is. Going to session a ramp with some friends is the same as getting together for a pickup game of basketball.

Last week Phil ladjanski and I went to Bams house to check out the new park and chill. Kerry and Bam were killin it. Phil got a few sick tricks also. I put them on youtube. So, the Paines Park Site has been up for (I believe) about 2 weeks. If you are a regular visitor of haveboard.com, you are probably familiar with my dislike for flash websites. Nick Orso, who is on the Franklins Paine Board asked me for my comments, and he forwarded them on to Red Tettemer, who have been gracious enough to donate their services to continue to push for thsi park to get made. It is happening, and I thank all those involved.

I won't go into detail about the all things I don't like about the site(maybe a few), and focus on more of the positives. They pulled off the full screen video background, rather nicely. There are some great video interviews with Josh Nims and Stevie Williams, regarding the project. You can sign up to a newsletter, and even download the video to use as a screen saver (not sure if it is mac friendly).

Beware of the following: From the landing page, you are sent to a new window, which forces your browser window to resize to full screen. Auto playing Music Player you have to stop whenever you navigate back to the main page. No option to stop, or turn down volume of the video clips.

The Brooklyn Bowl has received an eviction notice

Calling on my buddies... If you'd like to see the Autumn bowl stick around, please contact Dave about making a donation. Give so miracles can live!

The new credit card system, we implemented has worked great for the past 2 months. But our prior debt keeps on haunting us, if we can clear up this matter, we have enough current keyholders to keep rent uptodate in the future.

Please email me if you are down to support the bowl.

If I can get at least 50 keyholders I can charge the credit card on file, if I get under 50, I will not charge anybody and we will give up possession of the warehouse.

I need everyone's response immediately weather or not you can donate. Email me back YES or NO.

If anyone has the means the donate more, or can raise money in some other way within the next couple of days.. i.e. sponsorship etc etc... please let me know. Time is of the essense.

SKATEBOARD PARK RECEIVES $1 MILLION FROM CITY

The Philadelphia Commerce Dept. grant will build Paine's Park, and add another crown jewel to the urban waterfront park - Schuylkill Banks.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. Dec. 18 – Philadelphia's international reputation as a world class skateboard destination, just got another feather in its cap with the announcement today of a $1 million grant from the City of Philadelphia. Franklin's Paine Skatepark Fund, is the non-profit organization which has been raising money for this much anticipated City Park designed for skateboarding, events and general public use. Located at the north end of Schuylkill Banks, it will add an exciting outdoor recreation site on the popular 1.2mile venue along the lower banks of the Schuylkill River.

The grant is part of Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street's "Cultural Corridors Fund" initiative, and the first major cash gift for Paine's Park. The completion of the park will solidify Philadelphia's international reputation as a skateboarding destination while honoring the city's rich history of innovative, open-space urban design.

This major financial investment is the second significant contribution to the project by the City of Philadelphia. In 2003, Mayor Street and Philadelphia City Council donated a 2.5-acre parcel of land along the Schuylkill River near the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the park's site.

"This is an exciting day for me," said Stephanie W. Naidoff, Director of Commerce for the City of Philadelphia." All of our 62 award winners deserve great credit for all of their hard work and commitment to Philadelphia. I am especially pleased to know that these funds will finally make the dream of having a world class skate park on Schuylkill Banks a reality," she said.

Paine's Park is a new vision in the development of public space and urban design. The original goal was to develop a community park that was also skateboard-friendly, creating a destination for pedestrians, runners, skateboarders and the 16,000 people who visit Schuylkill Banks every week. After numerous meetings with community leaders, the project's neighbors, and city officials, Franklin's Paine and the Philadelphia City Planning Commission sent out a request to select a project architect with a vision that met the challenge.

Philadelphia architect, Anthony Bracali, part of the team that created Citizen's Bank Ballpark was selected. His bold design for Paine's Park compliments the urban, waterfront landscape, and creates an organic link between the Schuylkill River and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The conceptual design has been praised by many experts and also received a "Citation of Merit" from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Pennsylvania at the 2006 Design Awards. In awarding the prize, the judges said: "The skate park accommodates many users and many activities and acknowledges skateboarding as a positive contributor and involved an exemplary process to create a new paradigm." In 2007, AIA Philadelphia honored the design with the Urban Planning/Community Design Award, another international recognition for skatepark design and Philadelphia.

"We're thrilled that this project has become a model for excellence in design, and now will become a reality thanks to the generous Department of Commerce grant," said Josh Nims, president of the Franklin's Paine Board of Directors, and operations manager for Schuylkill River Development Corporation, the agency responsible for the development of Schuylkill Banks. "The new skateboard park will be a combination of urban planning, design, public art, and emerging cultures," Nims added. "And it will be a fitting legacy for our organization's inspiration, two great Philadelphians, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Paine." Nims added that the total cost of the project is $5 million, and the organization is continuing to pursue major donors.

Paine's Park will not only serve as a recreation site for all of Philadelphia's citizens, it will be a key space for all levels of events such as concerts, community and arts events, and high- profile televised events such as ESPN's, X Games and NBC's Mt. Dew Action Sports Tour. The location will also provide easy access for residents and event producers as well as spectacular views of the Philadelphia skyline.

"We couldn't be more excited to hear the news about Paine's Park," said Joseph Syrnick, president and CEO of Schuylkill River Development Corporation. "The City has been such a major supporter of Schuylkill Banks, and I would like to thank the mayor and commerce director, as well as our partners like the Fairmount Park Commission, for everything they have done to help revitalize the lower part of the river and transform it in to a world class riverfront venue in its own right."

Syrnick said that in 2008, Schuylkill Banks will not only become the home to a world class skateboard park, but also to many new additions to the Banks including a major north end landscaping project, a trail extension form Locust to South Streets, new dock installations, bridge upgrades, and others. There will also be new river boat and kayak tours, and numerous special events throughout the programming season which begins before Memorial Day.

Skateboarding is the second-fastest growing sport in America and a $5.2 billion industry. Extreme sports - including skateboarding, BMX bikes and motocross - represent one of the most visible sporting movements in the world. Philadelphia received more than $50 million in economic activity when it hosted the X-games in 2001 and 2002.
