Bowling For Plazas

Do you see a bowl here???

Didn’t think so…………..Philly needs something like this soo bad. With the amount of skateboarders in such a small area such as
Philadephia, this park would be put to great use.
A street skater’s heaven, right in your very back yard…………

(editor note: Don’t be stupid a make comments about there not being any trees or people, because this was when the park first opened. It doesn’t look so open and empty now, so relax.)

  1. Sorry for restarting this topic Haveboard, but this was the only way I could put a different picture up without erasing everyone’s rants and raves….If you want to fix it, please do…….

  2. dude no one even goes to that place, look i dont see anyone, and they dont even put grass down, AND WHERE ARE THE TREES…. that place looks horrible. i hope philly doesnt get something without trees…

  3. The cost of the $650,000 skate park was split between the city of Kettering and the Rob Dyrdek/DC Shoes Skateplaza Foundation. The Alien Workshop, a skateboarding company based out of Dayton, contributed $200,000. Dyrdek, a professional skateboarder and Kettering native who designed the park, put in $50,000. The rest came from the city’s parks and recreation budget, according to Claudine Heizer, a spokeswoman for Kettering Parks and Recreation. —- So, wow, its less than one ACRE and it cost less than 1 Million. AWS and Dyrdek paid for $250,000 of this too. And the skaters themselves, besides Dyrdek, didnt have to do or pay for shit. No, I won’t ever skate there unless I end up overnight in dayton for some other reason. So there isnt a bowl there. Where is the other 4.3 million dollars going and why are skaters alone being made to find the money here?

  4. yes, please, let’s not start this over, Ki, WTF. Dan has gotten in touch with the right people and we are trying to move froward and be positive.

  5. DO, I am working on answering your concerns. Please understand that 1) This is a union city 2) Most of Kettering in concrete 3) The cost structure in the middle of OHIO for a park is much less than in a large metropolitan city 4) That Jim, FP’s Community Relations Director has already answered your concern re: cost of construction! 5) That we have included funds to maintain the park for 10yrs, including replacing cracked marble and such 6) That a professionally experienced construction/Architectural whom are licensed for this type of work computed these estimates based on their prior experience IN THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA. 6) That you asking about why it costs soo much detracts from your stated original goal of building a bowl. 7) That I have not seen a question from you asking how much a “normal” grindline/dreamland etc. park would cost ON THE EAST COAST, a place mind you that “they” are very hesitant to build near due to point 1. thanks for making sure we are not spending too much, your insights and concerns are appreciated, and will be answered in a timely fashion. Sincerely, Brad Hoffman Treasurer Franklin’s Paine Skatepark Fund Please review our entire website, as many concerns can be answered from materials located within. Thanks!

  6. DO, you claim that the skater’s shouldn’t have to pay for shit, and in the same rant (earlier post) are concerned that the city can/will take it away and make it non skateboarding friendly…don’t you see the strategy, or shall I continue?

  7. Let me save you some time. I didn’t say “shouldn’t have to” I said, “didn’t have to…” in kettering. Here, in PA, if youre going to allow and encourage everyone in the whole city, from 2-100 years old, skater or not, to use this truely public place then it seems like a logical supposition to me that everyone be asked to contribute. Skaters have the most to gain, but since its all usable by everybody, I feel like its kind of unfair to the skaters, and the groups they are in, to ask them to foot the whole bill. —- So youre mad at me for looking out for your interests. Thats all. People are saying that they are pleased, they trust the deal, so fine, I am sold too. Its over.

  8. Ok, soo I should have continued…if we raise the money, the city can never take it away…was it that difficult to see…

  9. your obvioulsy not sold, thats why all of this energy was spent trying to help you grasp the concept..

  10. yes gonzo, we do. Brad, that was a strong way to put the costs issues. I dont know how to talk that talk. DAN, stop ranting, seriously, this sucks. You left SAN for your own reasons, now you want back in? Get back in! Join FPSF, Join SAN, post a meeting here, I dont care! I am so sick of this discussion. OHIO had the park first and had big money behind it. Who in philly skate scene has money, stevie? Cmon, we gotta do things our own way. That is how this started. Thanks to Jnims and I we got the ball rolling. Now start your own ball or shut the fuck up.

  11. Hey DO, Brad, Haveboard, Gonzo, and everyone else that posted…..the bottom line is this……………….WE ALL LOVE SKATEBOARDING. ……nuff said.

  12. ya dang old children run along now with ur scooters and ur big hair, wheres all dem trees? and grass? caws eat dem grass? no pedestrians in dat der pic, dang old jumper cables! NO BOWL, MARBLE LEDGES!
