Wilmington Skateproject

Mark Calder of the Wilmington Skateproject sent me this urgent message. He wants as many people as possible to show up for a meeting Thursday night in Wilmington. A few cars might be going. If you want to go I might have a mini van so contact me and let me know. Here is the letter I got from Mark:

Dear WSP Friends,

Apologies for serious lack of updates. We continue to work to gain support for the park, including a support letter from Senator Biden.

If you have not heard, we did receive a $5,000.00 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation. Out and About will run in Feb. issue. News Journal ran article on Jan, 15th.

Including the grant, the WSP has raised nearly $22,000.00. From correspondence with Councilman Kelley, the City of Wilmington has funds earmarked for the skatepark at an estimated $40,000.00. I can’t speak for the city, so that is only estimated. Our park is +20,0000 sq. ft. and “estimated” at approx. $500,000.00+ for construction.

On Jan. 16th Councilman Kelley introduced a proposal to amend the City budget to include $250,000.000 for the skatepark.

It is likely that on Thursday, Feb 1st, City Council will vote on this. We will know the vote date for sure this week. We urge you to attend this meeting!!! We will send a note out when the date is confirmed. It will be 6:30, at City Council chambers , first floor of Louis Redding – city/county building

800 N French St
Wilmington, DE 19801

We also want to urge everyone to write letters!! If there ever was a time .. it is now!
You can be direct but please be polite in your urging them to build this first class park. Please blind carbon copy.. info@wilmingtonskateproject.org
