Post 22 – Issue 19 and some Final Cut Knowledge
haveboard|04/29/09
Post 22 has posted issue 19 and all I have to say is, no apology necessary. That is some mighty fine HD going on over there.
I do want to respond to what I saw on their blog or news roll or whatever the kids call it these days. The mysterious Final Cut Pro button that is mentioned is the “Auto-Select Tool”. There are actually many uses, such as cutting certain track’s clips with control+V while watching the timeline, while not cutting the tracks that weren’t auto-selected. This is explained in this screencast on expert village. Another use for the auto-select buttons is to apply filters to multiple tracks on the timeline using in and out points, while not disturbing the tracks that aren’t auto-selected. This usage, along with others, are described here. I know that page is talking about FCP4, but I think the general usage is still the same. I have never really used these buttons, but after looking up their usage, I can foresee many times when this could come in handy.
