Terry Kennedy in Stable Condition

  1. Did you hear about Terry Kennedy?? Seriously, most of the rumors you hear are bullshit. Unfortunately this one holds real weight. For real……wait. This morning, I heard, what you heard, what I said, what was told, and reiterated, and told again. The messege was just the same. Unfortunately it was the same. I am writing this to inform you that not all black people got the memo. I didn’t get it until about 10 years ago. Every now and again, I read part of it, get disinterested, and then just put it away until later. Later has been sooner than you think. This is going to offend alot of people, but in a sense, it needs to be said. Maybe this may clear up a few things about people in general. Well in this instance, it’s going to be black people. I’m black, contrary to what some people may say, so I can annouce my feelings on this. Apparently, riding a skaterboard and not being from the hood, discredits me. I’m not black enough. Earlier I talked about a memo. I did. Not everyone knows the memo. Well, here’s the skinny, or the fat, or whatever: Given to me by the black community: It states this: “Black people are not supposed to come up in the world. You are NOT supposed to do well completely. You are only supposed to do better for the time being.” The sad thing about all this is that the only REAL people holding us (black folks) back, is US. We can do anything we set our minds to. We need to just do it. The white people today, aren’t slave masters of yesterday. We can’t blame white people for everything. Alot of people(black) hold resentment towards today’s white people for things they have never truly experienced. No one, white or black, wants to admit they are fucking up. No one. Like crabs in a barrel, we push each other down in the mud to get ahead. Or, if our situation isn’t as good as the next brotha man’s we are supposed to knock that person down a peg. “Folks don’t like to see a person too proud or too free.” It’s a real shame. Great thinkers. Inventors. DO-ERS in general, and we cut each other’s throats left and right. Terry Kennedy lived in the hood. He did. He grew up there. Instead of people being happy for him and the life he was trying to lead, they came at him. Niggativity came at him, and niggas run fast, so it caught him. Now look at him. Look at him….. Being a skateboarder is not easy. Especially being a black skateboarder. It’s a constant reminder in my life. People, even nowadays are taken back by it. Oh, I left out another thing……. Another quote from the memo I received: “Black people are NOT supposed to ride skateboards.” Finding it out the hard way, I caught shit from all angles. Black people in general treat skateboarding like the Ebola virus. “It’s a white boy sport!!!” It didn’t seem to bother me. Until recently. Living in Philadelphia, it just drives me crazy that I can’t ride a skateboard in my own neighborhood, because my brothas’ will see me and label me a white boy. Not just label, but are willing to kill me over it. I’ve offended my race, at a one push pace. Terry, man I hope he isn’t dead. But, truthfully, who can survive such an ordeal as his? He didn’t just get shot. We all did. All? Yes all…. All the black people who look outside the box. All the black people who think outside their environment. All the black people who extend their hand to a worthy person, regardless of heritage. All the black people who know they are capable than much more than, dancing on television, catching a football, or telling a fucking joke in every movie. I deal with it. Everyday. All day. I talk a little different. I grew up in a nicer neighborhood. I do my own thing. I always did. Why should I feel bad for it?? Terry might have been better off if he decided to dunk a basketball, instead of learning a kickflip. What a fucking shame. Unfortunately the streets catch up to you afterall. It’s been pushed that being black means you’re ghetto. I’m not. It’s been pushed that if you do live in the ghetto, you can”t do anything better than what you are doing. Bullshit. You can do anything. However, it seems to be only if they let you. I’ve been told it takes a nation of millions to hold us back….. It doesn’t. It takes a group of niggas to hold us back. We promote it. We love it on our tv. We love it on our movies. We love it in our music. Just not on our doorstep….. Well I just have one question? Is a nigga a complexion, or is it all in your mind??? Terry, you are in our prayers. I’m still gonna skate. If my card gets pulled for doing something different, then so be it…. Things can only change, If you want them too. Re-educate.

  2. damn. somebody get this guy a username b/c he needs to contribute more often.

  3. Skateboarding’s for everybody. People can be fucking hypocrites. The same guys who shot Terry for riding a skateboard and disgracing the “hood” most likely also constantly bitch about the “racist” white people. Skateboarding’s for everybody, and all styles of skateboarding are for everybody.

  4. It’s sad that I fear my own people than anyone else. Skateboarding is just that….Skateboarding. I had no idea I was less black for riding one. Nevermind the fact I know and have done more for my people than the dudes on the corner. If you’re my peoples, then you’re my peoples. Black, white or whatever. I got your back. I’m gonna help you shine the best i can. Fuck keepin it real…..I keep it right.

  5. 2 times? Sheeeeeeet I got shot 9 times. But you all know that, I say it in every single fucking song. Fuck what ya heard.

  6. Yo Ki, Let’s put this up in the mag. It needs a little bit of work grammar-wise but I like it.

  7. I agree with what Ki said, but on a side note why did Terry get shot? I find it a little hard to believe that because he rides a skateboard he got shot. I met this kid once and he’s got quite a mouth on him. Maybe he just mouthed off to the wrong person. Maybe not. Just wondering if anyone knew anything?
