  1. bullshit on that one. half-cabs are the best. the new Syndicate models are the best yet. do your feet a favor and get a pair!

  2. i’m just sayin i see more kids rockin dunks than half cabs these days. it’s easier to get a pair of dunks than it is half cabs too…i must’ve had…10 – 15 pairs of half cabs over the years…best shoe ever.

  3. I know all you dirty hippies are gonna be hateful, but the truth hurts kiddies. The Nike Dunk was released in 1984, the Vans Caballero was released in 1989 and then later turned into the half-cab in the early 90’s. Kids were skating in Dunks years before they skated in Half-Cabs. Which leads me to my conclusion that Half-Cabs are still not the new Nike Dunk.

Now go take a bath hippy.

  4. good pojnt dfiant, hadn’t really considered it that way. not feeling the dunks at all though, i’ll stick with my Half-Cabs, thanks.

  5. I have to point out some more hypocrisy that is always brought out in these types of discussions. I see people screaming things like “Fuck Nike” all the time. Now usually when you ask a person why they say this you get the typical response along the lines of “Oh they’re so corporate”, or “They use child labor in (insert 3rd world country here)”. This type of response always ammuses the hell out of me. Last time I checked Vans was a multi-billion dollar corporation using child labor in third world countries too. We can chalk up the same status for DC, Sole-Tech, Lakai, or any other shoe company out there, skateboard related or not (of course not all these companies are multi-billion dollar companies).

Now if you hold a loyalty to Vans because you think that a skateboarder or surfer sits atop the company then your just delusional. Vans sold out years ago and like most corporations, is run by some jerk-off in a suit. Can’t say the same about DC, and Lakai, not sure about Sole-Tech.

The point is that the bottom line for both Vans and Nike is to make their product for as cheap as possible and sell it for as much as possible and sell a lot of said product. The bottom line is profits, not quality assurance, not skateboarders, not human rights, not anything other than dollars. This goes for about 99% of companies out there. People are in business to stay in business, and you stay in business by turning profits and keeping costs down.

At one point in time both Nike and Vans were small companies started by either an individual or a small group of people. Both have become profit seeking whores. Obviously Nike makes much more money than Vans, but then again they make products for almost everything imaginable.

I’m going to continue to rant some more. People like to complain about Nike, but without them…your shoes would just suck. Look at your shoes and theres a good chance that no matter who makes them…there’s Nike technology involved. Wearing Vans with a waffle sole? The waffle sole was invented by Bill Bowerman (Nike Founder). It’s called a waffle sole because he used his wifes waffle iron to pour the rubber into to get the mold. Have an air pocket in your shoes? Again that’s Nike Technology. The list goes on, but I’ll let you all do some investigating of your own if your interested. The basic point is that Nike didn’t get to be a 7 billion dollar a year company by making shitty products.

I’m now done with my continued history lesson/rant. This was in no way a shot at anyone person, nor was it a defense of Nike or an attack on Vans. Merely some food for thought.
