Alan Gelfand Owns The Ollie?

After leaving skating for 20 years, Alan “Ollie” Gelfand is making quite the comeback. Gelfand, who did the first no handed aerial on vert, is now LEGALLY claiming the ollie as his own. He registered the word as his professional trademark in 2004, and is in the process of sueing Disney, Sega, Buena Vista Games; Disney Interactive Direct Mail; Activision Publishing; Toys for Bob; Vicarious Visions; Sega Amusements USA; Climax Manufacturing; Flowlab; and Ron Jon Surf Shop for the tune of over $20 million dollars.

Does this mean we’ll see Cab sueing over the use of Half-Cab or McGill hiring a legal team to seek punitive damages on the use of McTwist? To put it lightly…hell no.

  1. Yo, that is crazy. I was just talking about that the other day. What a fucktard! But I guess that is the american dream. Sue people for money to make a living.

  2. Alan Gelfand may have been a lengend, but his suing companies totally takes a shit on any respect I had for him. “I own the ollie?” Fuck you Alan! The Gonz has a better ollie than you ever did, and you give skaters a bad name

  3. What an asshole! He’s in the club with Geraldo Riverra. How about this: we re-name the ollie. We’ll call it the Gonz! Nollies will be….. Ngnonz? That doesn’t roll off your tongue so well. Seriously, fuck Gelfand!

  4. hey i agree with suing disney and tony hawk’s overseers. blew up the industry like bad diahrea.

  5. He is going after the Big Guns, and NOT the core skate Companies. I say, go for your’s alan. Just make sure you GIVE BACK when you are done raping these companies, like say… to SRSP

  6. good for Allan, let him sue all of these companies that have nothing to due with skating. Get yours dog. Lets keep skating where it belongs, between skaters, and not in the pockets of multi billionaire suit and tie guys. Word Up Allan, Much respect.

  7. Alan Ollie Gelfand is one and the same. All his friends have called him Ollie before it was a skateboard trick. Alan is the most humble and standup guy around. He is being sued himself for using his own name. It is Ollie against the corporate giants. Good luck Ollie.
