RIP or R.I.P. ??? UPDATE 2: AUTUMN BOWL NOT R.I.P. ??

I just got a message that an awesome spot may be R.I.P. I hope they meant RIP as in lets go rip it, and not that this spot is R.I.P. That would really suck. I don’t wanna start rumors, so I’ll update when I get more info. UPDATE: The Autumn Bowl is no more, Kaput, R.I.P. It’s on fire. Probably burned down by the owners to make fucking condos or some shit! JUNK. Another one bites the dust. Check flickr for more photos. I’m sure more details will develop as the day goes on. Way to start out the day on the wrong foot. UPDATE 2: Apparently it is the building next to the bowl and that the bowl is fine. I hope Alex is right about this one. Here is the flickr link and the the bowl that gonzo posted below in the comments.

check Official NYC for developments as well.

  1. Wait, so its gone or its not? RIP is posted on SkateNerd and it looks like this post says its fine.

  2. I just called Dave Mims from Autumn. He said the building next door is on fire and should burn all day but it may or may not spare the bowl building. Sucks for him. he is getting calls all day. I tend to think of glasses being half full, not half empty. Lets all pray to skate gods to save the bowl.

  3. Oh yeah, he said they have been trying to sell the building next door for a while now and squatters have ben in there. It seems like the fire may have been “started” People suck.

  4. i hope it’s not burning. many many people have put their blood and sweat into that bowl. including a few SPBEEZ.

  5. I called Dave Mims again. He said the fire is out, still smoldering and everything South of the building that the bowl is in burned all the way down to the ground. but the bowl survived. However he said that the area might become condemned and they might knock down the entire block, including the bowl. Stay tuned…

  6. I am a member of the bowl and went down there yesterday to check it out. Although the block it’s on looks like a war zone, it looks promising that the bowl will survive. The warehouse that burned down was 2 buildings away. There is a completely untouched warehouse structure between the burnt structure and where the bowl is. There are still businesses using the other parts of the warehouse that the bowl is located in and they seemed to be moving their stock around but no out. When I was there, I tried to get into the warehouse but I was stopped 40 feet before the gate by a cop that said the area is temporarily off limits to anyone that is not emergency personnel. When he asked, I didn’t tell him why I was there except for that I worked in one of the warehouses. Don’t want the cops finding out about our beloved bowl. Anyway, I am confident the bowl will survive.

  7. To destroy the entire block, the businesses that are there must be moved and I’m sure that they all have leases on the property. Renters have all the rights in NYC and I know the bowl has at least a 3 year lease take on it. Hopefully we’ll get 3 more years out of it if not more.

  8. Thanks for the update! Keep us posted. I hope to skate there once again after I get my surgery on the ole’ ankle.

  9. Thanks haveboard. We all need to keep a positive attitude through this time. If the bowl does die, we should all donate our time and $$ to rebuild it. There’s nothing like it in NYC and to loose it would be a disaster for skating in NYC. Keep positive all who are members and lucky guests.

  10. It’s official, the autumn bowl is safe. If you are lucky enough to know someone with a key go and skate it and enjoy what was almost gone forever.
