Sub Skate Jam

  1. I don’t think it’s fair that people come to Whtiehall and host “Skate Jams” to benefit their company or shop. Not once do any of these people come there and clean shit up or build ANYTHING. My friends and I spend my own money there to make it somewhat skatable and THEY reap the benefits. What do THEY do? Come there and spray paint their logos on shit they didn’t build, and leave trash everywhere… THANKS!!! *this excludes Exit Skateshop, because when they host a jump off at the park, they hook it up.

  2. Me and you are friends Ki… so does that mean I can spend your money to hook some shit up at Whitehell? Whether or not you let me spend your money I do agree with what you’re saying. These companies/shops should just let all the Wenning clones at Whitehell skate spray paint logo free!

  3. That’s not to say I’m against skate jams and fun shit though. Don’t want to sound like the angry dude… cause Tony is the angry dude, not me.

  4. hey, of course we are all friends here. all i am saying is help out a little people. it’s like no one gives a shit to do something, but they all want something…everyone is welcome at whitehall, but for people to come into a place that we skate everyday, and take it over for a day, they should look out for the cookout.

  5. At least its something going on. How about you ask Sub Zero to leave something behind then just posting about how it sucks? Actions speak louder then hypertext. I seem to remember SAN organizing (thanks to Scott Kip) some jam that Have Board did the MC work and SAN left behind a new brick ledge and a wood long ledge that Scott built. And we cleaned up after. Oh thats right, SAN is another group that no one tries to get involved with, but rather talk trash on. No hate, I just had no idea that a skate jam would get negative attention.

  6. Sub does plan on helping the clean up process at whitehall, wouldn’t you rather have a skate jam then have nothing going on? its helping people meet others etc. Also look into all the community work AJ (one skateboards ceo) contributes. peace

  8. What are you talking about, Eric. Why is everything you post gotta be so damn CRYPTIC?

  9. Uh,maybe I should have just called you.Its about the bucket drummer from visual sound.

  10. I don’t think Ki is against skate jams as they are fundamentally a good thing. But he also does have a valid point about companies using a spot/product/whatever to promote themselves without doing anything for said spot/product/whatever. I’m not pointing any fingers so please don’t assume anything. AJ is a genuinely good guy and does a lot for Philly skateboarding. I know Sub has contributed in the past to funding spots. I’m not sure what they are planning to do at whitehall as that has yet to be seen. Either way nugget you need to relax, eric you need to write full sentences, and Ki you need to be positive up meh! And I guess I shouldn’t always be a sarcastic asshole…

  11. I am not putting this all on Sub Zero & One Skateboards. It’s just the whole ball of wax in general. I LOVE SKATEJAMS!! I am definitely gonna be at THIS one. The whole point of it is that the LAST time there was one, all I saw was a bunch of stencils painted on everything. That was so harsh. I am 100% about fun. I was the one there today trying to fix a few things and I may even build something else there. Kids that actually GO there regularly, sat and griped to me about it. But no one ever stands up and says anything. About being positve….shit, I am always about being positive. I do whatever I can to hook something or someone up. I go to spots, and try to fix them, I am moving 2 blocks from the bridge spot, JUST SO I CAN BUILD SHIT TO SKATE. So don’t even treat it like I don’t put in work. Sub Zero has done alot for skating. I NEVER said they didn’t. But you can’t blame me for being a little red in the face.

  12. Funny thing is that if we were talking about FDR, it would have been a whole other vide on this page….A little ironic…Don’t ya think?

  13. THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO SEE: Hello Ki, yes we were trying to add a few things , also check over some of the surfaces and everything and do what we can of course. Also we have tried to always do a proper cleaning and also leave the place as clean as possible. Mostly have everyone have a real good time and get people psyched and give out some promo goods and free drinks and all. Music and fun etc. etc. I was given word you had recently done a little fixing……………… SCHANE V. (RESPECT TO SCHANE & THE SUB 0 PEOPLES….SATURDAY IS GONNA BE DOPE….ki)

  14. “it would have been a whole other vide on this page” uh, I’m confused, what are we even talking about anymore?

  15. I gotta relax? Did not know I was being so uptight. It’s fun when a thread gets lots of attention. People think and act. Ki, cant wait till you live round here, South Philly is really getting interesting.

  16. I got some pretty cool plans for bridge spot AND Whitehall. All I want to do is make a cool few spots where you can meet up, skate a bit, maybe film a line or two….and have a couple laughs…

  17. Is there any way all the local skate shops could each have a spokesperson and make decisions and plan events as a functioning unit?

  18. Maybe you don’t have to relax Nugget, your text just read as really pissed. I guess that’s the problem with text, lots of assumption.

  19. Just got back from the bridge spot. Some douche bag stole the flat bar and the sign for the launcher. Fucking people.

  20. Mummers don’t practice on that side of the highway. They practice on the north side of the 95 on ramp. Never seen them on the south side, at least not on the block where the spot is. Either way it’s bullshit that someone would steal the flat bar, some people are just selfish assholes.

  21. it’s all propaganda…. a lot of talk about community and bringing people together, when it’s obvious there’s a free billboard waranted at someone else’s expense. why leave a ‘donation’ AFTER the fact? try helping out DURING the building and maintaining of the spot, before you find an avenue for righteousness there…. hmmmmm…….exploitation? maybe. me a jerk, maybe. skate jams fun, maybe….if you’re 12 and trying to win a trophy. sorry dudes, stir the soup of hate ;)

  22. little history.. Whitehall was born the day superfresh was closed and boarded up. 4 of us stole some of the plys and built the first box and kick. We started by the “seals” then got moved to the basketball court, the little court, then eventually the hockey court. 8 years of stickups, bottle attacks, race riots, L&I raids, paintball shootings, real shootings, plane chrashes (no joke), pat downs, building seshs, skate jams, this place is still holding it down. Hate all you want good times and bad you gotta love what you got, and we got a place to skate.

  23. in order to haave a skatejam in the first place, you need a skatespot. whitehall is a skatespot. I dont think this one is about company promo, its just a couple companies doing a jam, i always remember companies doing jams. thats how its done, right? whats the big deal. Plus Sub Zero is the Philadelphia original. They can do what they want. In my book Sub Zero has always backed skating 100 percent in Philly. PERIOD. am i wrong? Maybe ill start skateboarding again. This sounds fun to me.

  24. PS. big thanks to Jessie Clayton. I have seen that dude fork out more time, effort, and money then anyone on whitehall in the past year. Jessie and Myself have a couple parties and events coming up to raise money for more matierials. We hope to put a mini in the old court and a couple more cement and marble ledges. Stay Tuned

  25. There needs to be a section for heelies.i don’t have time for skaters getting in my way.Heel or die!

  26. he said HEEL OR DIE! I’m gonna yell that at all the Heely-er’s. Is that what they call themselves?

  27. We’d prefer it to be known as Futureshooz.Heels of Fire.We don’t grind rails we futureshoe down them at break neck speeds.

  28. Hellies along with skateboarding and that stupid sport where people do back flips off of dumpsters and shit have all been suggested for summer olmpics… someone please fact check my comment im a little to drunk to handle wikipedia

  29. Went to the jam today…won a board for staying on my board…Lot’s of high fives, pounds, hugs, love and whatnot. Schane came through and fixed alot of the problem areas in the park, and everyone had a great time. Skateboarding…..so hot right now…Oh, and there was a Mike Bruno siting….priceless.

  30. Jorge, bikes destroy pool coping, that doesn’t mean they don’t have style.

  31. A person’s body is constricted on a bike. One is hunched over, with their hands rigidly placed on the handlebars. Style is all about body movement, and there’s little one can do for that in the confines of a bicycle.

  32. the table jam was sick, did anyone see Tore Bevivino switch tre the table first try? and nollie inwerd heal revert? look out for that kid

  33. I have to give it up to him…the kickflip nosemanny, nollie heelflip out on the box was perfect. That kid’s gonna go places for sure.
