If you value your life, don’t go to whitehall

Kids have been showing up to whitehall with guns and Kurt(finger) and Steve(Exit) got shot at the other day. The Exit Jam was JUST broken up, because ten dudes showed up(with guns again) and the Jam is over. Public Service announcement: Whitehall is a warzone.

I’m real bummed.

  1. What is going on… I was at FDR the other day and outsiders wearing skate gear swung on my friend and I heard my other boy got snuck the week before by the same dudes. Lets keep the voilents on the street where it belongs….

  2. what the fuck? every time i show up there it’s full of 6 year-olds on scooters. how you gonna bring a gun to a playground?

  3. i got a gun to my neck today in front of a thousand little kids i see at work every day, that look up to me at that. i take full responsibility for my actions (kept to myself). it’s all over my boy smackin dude the fuck up, and he got bitter, and we bitched them all up. they came back 10 mins later with guns all tough all of a sudden. this is all i can say, just don’t ask me anything. it’s my neighborhood, and shit shouldn’t have been handled there. my apologies.

  4. huh? that happend? i was there all day it was just those kids tryina fight that other kid. no one finger involed i thought

  5. It’s ashame an event like this can be fucked up by a couple idiots. they did not care about anyone or anything

  6. The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing

  7. whatever. it was some isolated shit. i skated there today. it was no problem, just like i never had any problem there. the only solution is to have reasonable dudes around ripping and not being dickheads. i’m not giving up on a fun spot because of some stupid shit.

  8. I was there most of the day. This just looks like a case of a couple of losers exaggerating the situation so they can look badass. I wouldn’t doubt the possiblity though, ALL black neighborhoods are warzones.

  9. Well, first and foremost, saying that ALL black neighborhoods are warzones is incorrect. I live in a primarily black neighborhood, and it’s actually fairly nice. And the are Whitehall is in is NOT an all black neighborhood. So Mike,….you are soo wrong. Whitehall is full of shitty kids that lurk there with nothing better to do. They can’t go and cause trouble anywhere in their own neighborhood because they get their ass beat. I’m fucking sick of that place, but it has butter ground, so I deal. But it IS getting outta hand. I have seen enough fights and gun occurances there, than almost anywhere else. It’s a real shame.

  10. “whatever. it was some isolated shit.” I don’t think so. Those dudes live for confrontation, and fighting back only fuels the fire. As long as there is unsetteled business, you can bet they’ll be lurking. Fuck that place. Let them have it. If there no one skates there any more they’ll have nothing to do but kill eachother.

  11. “I was there most of the day. This just looks like a case of a couple of losers exaggerating the situation so they can look badass” WTF!? Were you there 2 nights before when they shot at 3 skateboarders for no reason? Were you the one with a gun to your neck in broad daylight around 300+ kids. In no way shape or form am I trying to exaggerate this situation but I love how people not even involved are the first ones to run there mouths

  12. A fence around a skatepark is such a bad idea. Sorry Exit guys that you put so much back into the scene only to have this happen. To everyone who is scared to skate a spot because of violence, Philly has always had an element of this type of crap. I don’t think fighting back is the answer but we gotta pay attention to our spots and try our best to be better to each other so we can be aware when the wrong people enter the picture. Or am I just talking like a crazy old kook.

  13. i agree with nugget. you just gotta be aware of whats going on around you when your skateing a spot. At any given point on that skate jam a stray bullet could have hit anyone, if any bullets did fly. I heard one kid saying “they made chris cole go home!” i felt bad for the kid, haha

  14. Ki, I think you should get a security guard like Big, not like dyrdek. Dyrdek is a skinny little whimp, and security guards should be strong, fearless, and completely loyal.

  15. Big is Dyrdek’s security guard, DO. I’m not sure if you are trying to crack a joke or if you seriously thought Ki wanted someone like Dyrdek to be his security guard. He was referring to wanting Big Black as his guard.

  16. FDR is getting out of hand too like someone else said. I was there last week and was walking out with a few friends, when three tough guys decide they want to almost run us over. Then they decide to follow us all the way back to where we parked to throw beer cans at us and try to jump us for walking. Made no sense.

  17. i’m assuming “fuck lurkers” is from the same george i met a few weeks back at fdr who almost got into a fight that night with some random south philly kids who had nothing to do with skateboarding. for absolutely no reason by the way. man, fuck lurkers is right. this shit is for the birds.

  18. Carltons Log” 7 kids sighted with guns attacking poor children trying to skateboard. keep my white ass away from this place. over

  19. so what do we do now? fight back in there way? how would that look on us? Go to the cops about these people? form a ralley? just make things worse.. what can we do?

  20. Fuck the “no snitching” bullshit. If you don’t want to speak up you better fucking stand up. The Neighborhoods famous for not talking to police did it because they knew the law was a joke not because they were fucking afraid. The cops did nothing the other day, and they wont. How many people at that event, and only ONE person stood face to face and talked to cops

  21. becasue alot of people didnt know what the fuck was goin on, the one kid who talked to the cops was related to one of the kids who started shit or somethen, so thats why he was talkin to the cop because he knew more

  22. so i usually don’t even read these things but i was involved in the shit that went down the other night at whitheezie…now for all u retards who think that someone would “make this up to sound more tough”???? please remove your head from youre ass.the group of like five punkasses came there that night to start shit for NO REASON and only afterlike 30 mins. of trying to ignore these ignorant fucks and all the shit talking a skater fought one of em and won/then one of them thought it would be a good idea to get involved,so i threw him aside…well needless to say he was insulted and came back later.

  23. so as kurt and i were leaving i saw this girl that was with one of the dudes pick up a huge rock and proceeded to throw it across the hood of my car at which time i also saw a large black gun pulled from the one kids jacket we narrowly escaped and got shot at.then the next day kurt gets prob. the same gun by the same kid put in his throat. kurt did not lie about anything/no one is exadgerating this and something has got to be done .i mean whitehall is in a schoolzone for one let alone that these kids aren’t in school

  24. The whole thing is ridiculous. Whitehall is getting more and more outta hand every time I step foot in there. The lurker to skater ratio is at least 4:1. Many times I’m cool about it and ask the kids to leave, or ask them to move. Something in them just makes them flock to whatever anyone is skating. Shit, do I go and skate where they deal drugs at? Nope. But this whole gun business is fucking lame. People are so afraid of an ass whoopin’. Take your lumps like a man and leave that gun shit for the OK Corral.

  25. Oh, and just how all the thugs have this “Stop Snitching” campaign???….I’m gonna start my very own “Stop Lurking” campaign. I’ve have been on this crusade for a while, but it looks like I may have to turn this into a reality. We gotta take our spots back. Oh, and FDR? I’m surprised the way that shit is getting. I thought you guys had that shit on lock??? I’ve been hearing stories left and right. I don’t have the skill to shred there….but I would rather go by there and see people killin’ it, than see people lurkin’ it.

  26. ‘Ki dizzle’, I’m sure the fact that you’re black has nothing to do with why you feel safe(r) in a black neighborhood. If you live in a black neighborhood that isn’t a war zone, then it’s an exception. When 13% of the population is responsible for over 50% of the homicides nationwide, it’s a bit absurd to expect intelligent men to still buy into the whole globalist paradise scam that only the most oblivious type of person still tries to peddle. Steve, I’m talking about Saturday. I didn’t see “10 dudes with guns” unless it happened away from the skatepark. nugget, not fighting back is the submissive and useless hippy mentality that allows things to escalate to the point where you no longer can to any avail. Letting people walk all over you is not exactly a smart long term solution.

  27. Oh, and FDR? I’m surprised the way that shit is getting. I thought you guys had that shit on lock??? I’ve been hearing stories left and right. Who told you that? Its always been nuts. Once weather gets a bit colder everything should simmer down. Indian Summers. Think that phrase came because the natives got crazier than ever if warm weather lasted longer.

  28. Joey B.’s en pointe.pick up the pace. Here’s one.Next event,it wouldn’t hurt to have the cops around.I mean they’re usually lurking around there anyway.

  29. I never thought I’d actually want the cops to be rolling through while I’m skating. Bizarro world.

  30. Called 911 and told them guns were pulled in a crowd of little kids….. 28 mins. until 1 cop showed up. 2 nights before when the shots were fired I flagged a cop 3 blocks away, and told him what happened. He didn’t take my name number or any info and drove in the opposite direction with his lights off. but hey it’s Philly I never heard of a innocent kid getting shot over some dumb shit before….right?

  31. And a 24 hour police presence at Love, to keep the skaters out. Get your head out of your ass, Philly.

  32. Well, regardless of who did or said what at Whitehall…race is not an issue. A gun is a gun. Period. Once that is introduced into any situation, things definitely don’t look good. Addressing the whole “black neighborhood” issue…..that shit is just weak period. But whatever make you feel better..I’m not gonna waste my time. Slow manuals? Shit, yeah, they might be slow, but where’s your footage at? Or should I check on YOUTUBE for “Beer Drinking At The Skatepark” ??

  33. Ever notice how most people, confronted with something they can’t debate, resort to denouncing the importance of it and try to act like it’s beneath them? People call me an idiot for ever going down there. Race is clearly an issue when someone calls a white kid a moron for being in a black neighborhood. Despite how profound “a gun is a gun” is, they’re much more dangerous in the hands of certain groups. There’s nothing mysterious about why things are getting so bad, some just lack the ability to comprehend reality. Now FDR is a disaster waiting to happen. An isolated skatepark beneath an interstate is definitely an inevitable hotspot for more diversity success stories.

  34. If FDR was a disaster waiting to happen, it happened in 04 and 05. Why? Lurkers. Keep ’em the fuck outt.

  35. fuck philly. shit use to be so fun to skate but now every summer shits gets worse and worse. first temple then white hall whats next cecil….

  36. What happened in 04 and 05? I don’t know FDR’s history, but I’m dumbfounded we can still skate there.

  37. Mike, I was going to comment on the white black thing before when you posted “ALL black neighborhoods are warzones.” However, I felt like it was ignorant to acknowledge the idea that color was an important observation. Yeah, Philly has a lot of crime and a lot of black crime. It also has tons of white crime, and I don’t mean mafia. Who cares what color dudes were!

  38. But now you calling me out for acting like a hippie for not wanting to pull out my own gun or fight? I never said “do nothing” i was suggesting that we work on building strength between skaters with spots and work on some solutions. Maybe you mis understood what I was getting at. No action is a bad idea, getting our own guns is worse. Maybe a good idea will be to have another event there real soon, get all the shops involved together and some cops and show the neighborhood that we are trying to bring some positive activity to the area. It’s 2007. Save the ignorant racism comments for 3am cheese steak runs at Ginos. As far as FDR goes you can tell by how filthy and glass covered the surrounding area is that no one is taking any responsibility for it, including me and all the other skaters who rip there. Time for change? Na, just change the channel.

  39. I’ve never seen so many misconceptions about life packed together in two posts like that. That kind of lunacy is based on the principle that if it sounds right, it must be! It’s the average person attempting conscious thought and failing miserably. You clearly don’t know anything about the science behind racial divide or anything about the crime statistics in Philadelphia or abroad(likely because you’re either black, or 12). Even after the government generously massages the numbers in favor of minorities, it’s more telling than you could grasp. Getting our own guns is worse? You’re insane. It’s Philadelphia’s unconstitutional carry laws that prevent good people from protecting themselves against criminals who would have guns either way. In the long run, respecting the 2nd amendment more would prevent more neighborhoods from going to hell, because these people are allowed to run rampant with no opposition.

  40. re: “respecting the 2nd amendment more would prevent more neighborhoods from going to hell” I’m going to respond to this as carefully as possible. I don’t want to just say that’s the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever heard. So I’ll elaborate. For starters, I was raised around guns. I own a gun. But it doesn’t take a genius to realize that an argument between two people with guns is a whole hell of a lot more dangerous than if only one person had a gun. You’re way more likely to shoot someone if you fear they might shoot you first. Consider the fact that this was the original justification for attacking Iraq.

  41. And of course minorities commit way more crime than white people. It’s because, in general, minorities are poor and disenfranchised and have been getting fucked over since the inception of this country. It’s easy to blame crime on race, because that is what it looks like on the surface. But it stems from an economic problem. Aside from Vice Presidents and rappers, you don’t see much gun violence among rich people.

  42. I like the idea of having another jam and getting other shops and local companies involved. This is also a great example as to why this city needs a couple satelite parks in other neighborhoods, because as safe as us older guys may or may not feel… It’s bigger then that. The kid to adult ratio in that park everyday and night is about 4/1.

  43. dirt, your short sightedness is why you’ll never be successful at anything. I phrased things a certain way to try and prevent your exact say-it-cuz-it-sounds-right comment. It’s amazing how well I know people. They’ll argue the smallest element because they don’t have the mental capacity to comprehend the big picture. People oblivious, ignorant, and uneducated enough to actually suggest the second amendment is a bad idea, are the same ones that’ll ultimately end up another number on the stat sheets done in by the same thing they advocate. And they still won’t ever get it. “”It’s because, in general, minorities are poor and disenfranchised and have been getting fucked over since the inception of this country.”” Hahah, yeah it’s the white devil’s fault black people are so violent. Been to South Africa lately?

  44. Who are you Mike? You may be intelligent and have valid points, but you’re baited comments are very trollish.

  45. yeah dude. you’re not gonna bait me into an internet argument. reading your comments is like watching the o’reilly factor.

  46. So get up, get, get get down 911 is a joke in yo town Get up, get, get, get down Late 911 wears the late crown!

  47. People Have been robbing people at gun point even at love back in the day. FaceAsses are a part of the game we play when we colonize. SkateBoard Supremacy!!!!

  48. ok this was a skate event the fact of the matter is guns shouldnt have been there u cant regulate that there is no racial stuff here this goes on everywhere black neighborhood or white one it happens and yes some cops might not do their jobs and thats not good but there are a few that try and u cant generlize police like that. I mean i hate when they roll up while your skating a spot and i hate that they are in love 24 hours a day. If it was a seperate matter leave it at that and if the gun wasnt on your neck or pointed at you move on. Yea lurkers suck everyone knows that, everyone knows we have alot violence, and everyone knows some police dont make the best decsions but it happens and we need to move on and how bout some fundraising for Paine’s park so then we aint gotta deal with this shit no more.

  49. Can I tell them that I never really had a gun,but it’s the wax that Terminator X spun

  50. To get a few things straight here…Some people, love to jump on any opportunity they can to put all violence on minorities…Which is stupid. Also, some minorites like to put all problems, on the “white man” which is just as retarded. Knowing right from wrong is a taught behavior. Regardless of color, that shit that happened at whitehall was wrong. Hey, my good friend got sliced in the face by a white kid at fdr a while back..Do you see me saying, all slashings are done by the white man and statistics blah blah blah?? That would be off the mark, and the point would be lost. Don’t use this place to spout all your political feelings or hatred..No one cares. It’s about skateboarding, and what we can do to protect it.

  51. FDR, I don’t go there. Not just because I’m a premadonna and don’t want to get my Polo dirty, but because without fail, almost everytime I’ve been there some dumb shit happened. I wish there was a solution, but it just seems like some people have nothing better to do than to start some shit. We need to do better..ALL OF US. Policing our spots is something that is gonna be mandatory soon enough. Understand that when shit happens at our spot, we get lumped in with those losers and troublemakers. It’s not fair, but that’s the cause of alot of places getting eventually shut down.

  52. Saying all knife related crime is by whites would not only be off the mark, it’d be laughable. Good thing you didn’t say it. I don’t put all violence on minorities, just their share which happens to be an overwhelming majority. None of this is off topic. I won’t ease up or apologize for being bitter that I can’t skate downtown without constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure those footsteps belong to another white man. It’s hilarious that some people still refuse to admit why things are getting so much worse. They choose to ignore certain bits of reality that don’t fit in with their naive view of the world, because in the end they truly don’t give a shit about anything but today. They’re just pretentious impulse driven consensus followers that define mob mentality even when they’re all alone.

  53. Mike said “average person attempting conscious thought and failing miserably” Thanks dude. What is YOUR great suggestion?

  54. “being bitter that I can’t skate downtown without constantly looking over my shoulder to make sure those footsteps belong to another white man” Please stop with your racial, generalizations. You are the one that appears to be naive, as you are stereotyping peoples intentions and behaviours due to the color of one’s skin. In no way am I trying to say that you aren’t making some valid points, but your comments, as well, are “impulse driven”. You won’t WIN or LOSE this argument, and I don’t know what particularly motivates you to act like your views are the “end all, be all”, but I do know that you are on the internet posting anonymous comments, and baiting arguments.

  55. Wow….this dude Mike is definitely trying waaay too hard to get people in some sort of racial uproar..Well I refuse to participate in this “going nowhere” debate. Mike, if you happen to hear my footsteps on the street, instead of clutching your man purse, or your skateboard(if you actually skate) turn around and introduce yourself to me as “Worst dude ever”……then I can finally put a face to the name….Cause I’m done….

  56. I’m still waiting on his suggestion to better our situation, but seriously if you close it I understand.

  57. I’m still waiting on his suggestion to better our situation, but seriously if you close it I understand.

  58. this is the most comments a subjust has ever gotten, makes me keep commin back for more and more. solution.. build real shit. not cinder block wood rail ledges. they r terrible.

  59. They appeared over night. Thanks to the crew who put them there. Its a spot, free and fun. You can build more stuff there too Bob, just get your stuff together and do it.

  60. Cinder block ledges are good, but when they wear down, the top needs to be replace with something OTHER than wood and angle iron.

  61. All in favor for the OG Bridge spot to be ressurected??? (and I’m not talking about the plastic bullshit)

  62. I’ll help out with the Bridge spot, if you’re building some kind of banks or trannies. Nothing against ledges and rails; I just suck ass at them.

  63. Is that really wood down there? I assumed it must be some kind of modern skateplaza bench material like that one bench in front of the Acme at 10th / reed.

  64. There is a cinderblock ledge I helped build with SAN at whitehall that eventually was capped off with wood and angle iron when the original concrete top w/ angle iron came undone. The ledges under the bridge are liquid nailed / cinder block with plastic top ledges. These spots(under the bridge) are destroyed to quick to build them any differently. I also don’t want to risk getting arrested for building without a permit anymore.

  65. Something has got to give. We all need to stop arguing on this thing and really come up with a solution. I’m not against this Scooterkill River shit, it’s just that I need some instant gratification. Am I the only one?

  66. Ki, I am with you, it is taking a while. You are not the only one. Everyone wants it done now. Would love to help build some more temp stuff at bridge. I live 4 blocks from it. I have a huge sturdy picnic table in my back yard that I want to throw away. If we pour a small kicker and I put angle iron on the table it could be fun. George, those pillars are waiting for someone to give them wall ride love. Go down and pour some crete!!!

  67. We gotta do something. I have been working alot and have something up my sleeve for the winter…Don’t worry…it’s gonna be worth it. Philly needs a central meeting spot. One where you purposely go out of your way to drive past to see if a session is poppin…I miss that shit..

  68. Take the good, take the bad, and there you have the facts of life. Keep movin, makin new stuff. Do what ya gotta do.

  69. I wanna see a renegade mini ramp…now that would be some shit. Just see one under the bridge one day.

  70. The event had a huge turn out but unfortunently a fantastic time turned into a uncontrolled situation … just be on guard… i got footage for days if yall want to see skate footage of the place! so just hold your horse’s till the drama lessens

  71. Wow Homies yall can talk some shizznit 106 Posts. This has gots to bes a record. What yous say Mons finnegonzo.

  72. Wow Homies yall can talk some shizznit 106 Posts. This has gots to bes a record. What yous say Mons finnegonzo.

  73. Wow Homies yall can talk some shizznit 106 Posts. This has gots to bes a record. What yous say Mons finnegonzo.

  74. that cinder block ledge ta whiteall with the wood on top can be turned into somthin sick. either plastic ledge or maybe a steap bank thing or anything thats better then what it is now. other long skinny ledge can get the wood pulled off and build a top to it so its safer and put fat angle iron on it. i dont live close enough to it to put all that money into it tho. but i kno how to build shit

  75. An attemp was made to get some coverage from the local police for all up coming events. I will keep you posted.

  76. It was irresponsible to not have an authority presence at the event considering what happened the day previous or the event should have been postponed or been canceled. To be honest it wasn’t really an event but a free for all (which was fun until the drama), no PA system (an essential devise to get anything done at an event), lack of organization etc. and it brought the wrong type of attention to the park / skateboarding to which these events should be helping build the park and the community not get it almost shut down and scarring kids away from skating there. This is the first time it has happened at an event, lets make it the last time it happens. Lets all work together next time and make it happen the right way all together and safely.

  77. The PA system was on it way just when the drama ensued. Poor timing I guess. What a waste of a good day.
