Harold Hunter Day this Sunday

THE 4TH ANNUAL HAROLD HUNTER DAY WILL TAKE PLACE OCTOBER 10TH IN NEW YORK CITY

NEW YORK, NY – September 23, 2010 – The Harold Hunter Foundation, in association with Zoo York, CCS, DVS Shoes, Camp Woodward and Red Bull, is proud to announce the 4th Annual Harold Hunter Day is set for Sunday, October 10th, in New York City.

Established in 2006 after Harold’s untimely passing, and managed by the non-profit Harold Hunter Foundation, HH Day IV will once again unite NYC’s skate community for a positive day of skateboarding and good times in honor of Harold.

A true New York icon loved by all, Harold’s larger-than-life personality and giving nature touched the lives of countless people around the world.  HH Day commemorates a life well lived by celebrating the things Harold cherished most – skateboarding, music, friends, family, and of course, NYC.

On Sunday afternoon, October 10th, HH Day IV will kick off at the L.E.S Skatepark on the corner of Pike and Monroe Streets under the Manhattan Bridge.  An all-ages skate jam will run from 1–5pm with pop-up best trick contests, product giveaways, appearances by special guests, and live music from DJ Smoke L.E.S.

Once the skate jam is finished, an after-party will go down at Panda NYC located at 139 Chrystie Street in Manhattan.  Dubbed “Harold’s Happy Hour,” the all-ages gathering will be open to the public with past and present HHF Woodward Scholarship recipients in attendance.

“I love the fact that HH Day connects people and their ideas, and allows for a shared positive experience amongst friends,” says Harold’s brother, Ron Hunter.  “It’s great seeing happy faces and watching kids go crazy for skateboarding because it’s what they love to do.  I know Harold would sincerely thank everyone who supports HH Day and believes in the HH Foundation.”

As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Harold Hunter Foundation relies on support from the skate community and surrounding scene to achieve its mission of using skateboarding as a vehicle to provide inner-city youth with valuable life experiences that nurture individual creativity, resourcefulness and the development of life skills.

With this goal in mind, a limited edition HH Day IV t-shirt designed by Mark Nardelli, and HHF deck designed by Eli Gesner, will be sold at the event with proceeds benefiting the Harold Hunter Foundation.  Both items will also be available post-event at select shops.

HH Day IV also marks the official launch of the first-ever Harold Hunter Foundation x DVS sneaker, available this Fall in limited quantities.  As DVS founder Tim Gavin puts it, “Harold was the first person from New York that I had ever met.  Right from the start, he was there to show us around NYC and be an awesome host to his great city.  Ever since meeting Harold that first time, I always hooked him up with shoes and supported him any way I could.  Harold is a legend and to be associated with him and his foundation is a blessing!”

Harold Hunter Day IV is made possible through generous support from Zoo York, CCS, DVS Shoes, Camp Woodward, Red Bull and Panda NYC, as well as the collective New York skate community.
