Hospital Bump RIP?

hospitalbump_ripThey installed a huge pole at the Hospital Bump on Locust between 9th and 10th. It might still be skateable. I can’t tell until they remove the tarps, cones and junk. I actually think it was installed more so vehicles don’t bottom out on it and you can still probably skate it off to the side.

At the 2min 45sec mark of this Eastern Exposure clip you can see a bunch of sick tricks that went down at this spot.

Anyone remember when they installed those plastic things that Ricky Oyola sort of pole jammed on it? I thought it was a Vox video and I looked around for a little bit but couldn’t find it. If anyone knows what video that was in, please post in the comments. It was in the first Traffic Video, Via (hat tip: Random Matt).

I stopped by the spot today to get some more pictures as well as shoot the round bar on the other end of the block that Easy mentioned below. It would be a pretty hefty pole jam at ~4’5″ tall.

  1. It was in Traffic “Via”, he does it both reg and switch. I couldn’t find it on Youtube, doublechecked my DVD- good part, good video.

  2. Well I can’t say that I am the least bit surprised. You are talking about a city that actually invested the time and energy to bend a pole jam back in South Philly. I nearly shit myself. Photos like these make realize just why I moved out of the city. If anyone is gonna pole jam that…it’s gonna be Rick.

  3. Did you miss the part where I’d like to see Rick pole jam it? You know you wanna see that shit too!

  4. Wills Eye Bump! I lived on 11th St. when I was in college and that spot was right around the corner from me. Skate the bump on one end of the block, skate the fat bar on the opposite end, get a hoagie from Wawa. And the ledge at the corner was fun too. See, I used to street skate!

That new bar will be a pole jam in no time. I think the city just improved on a spot.

  5. Shane V of Sub Zero grinded one of the highest parts of that flat bar…backside and frontside.

  6. I’ll say it my way, Ki. A rock to fakie would be hott. I’m sure most people could get a simple fakie on it. I wanna hit it up.

  7. Are you guys seriously talking about someone doing a rock fakie on that pole? Not gonna happen. Maybe a grind up and back down the bank but no one is making it to the top.

  8. ahhhh, CLASSIC spot… JUST passed by the other night while driving home, and I didn’t notice the new addition in the dark…

YES! Shane was the flat-bar MASTER back in the day. I remember him KILLING the old bar on Broad and (Bainbridge?) at the gas station, too.
